COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE 8TH NIGERIA ALTERNATIVE ENERGY EXPO (NAEE) HELD FROM 23RD-25TH OCTOBER, 2018 AT THE SHEHU MUSA YAR’ADUA CENTRE ABUJA WITH THE THEME: LIBERATING ECONOMIC DRIVE WITH CLEAN ENERGY

The exposition is the flagship of Sustainable Energy Practitioners Association of Nigeria (SEPAN) which represents Nigeria’s largest gathering policy makers, researchers, diplomats, manufacturers, investors, exhibitors and consumers who came together at the forum to brainstorm and bring to the fore issues that appropriately place the Nigerian in the global economy on the path to green growth paradigm. Hence we the Renewable Energy Stakeholders at the conference declared as follows:

  1. We Commend the Federal Government effort at mainstreaming the green growth agenda in Nigeria national life and called on President Muhammadu Buhari of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to sign into law the climate change framework bill.
  2. That, there should be need to build human capacity via mentorship by raising new generation of sustainable energy environment and climate experts in Nigeria and
  3. There is need for Renewable Energy practitioners to collaborate and partner with installers, solar power marketers and the end users in the renewable energy value chain.
  4. There is need to increase the training and capacity building of Women in the renewable energy sector.
  5. We call for Nigeria Government to give genuine investors in the renewable energy industry the benefit of the right of first refusal in the next round of Power Purchase Agreement.
  6. We call for increase skill development, know-how and awareness in the area of climate change and the environment.
  7. Subsequently, we recommend overall enhancement of training, advocacy and awareness on the renewable energy value chain
  8. There is need for continuous training and building capacity of local investors and entrepreneurs to enhance equitable technology transfer mechanism in the local content in renewable energy sector to boost the Nigeria economy.
  9. The need to develop local capacity to enhance value chain in the renewable energy businesses need not be over-emphasized.
  10. SEPAN and NAEE advocate the emphasis on entrepreneurial development right from secondary schools to tertiary institutions to enhance wealth and job creation on sustainable energy value chain.
